  1. Formaldehyde-Free

Formaldehyde is a chemical usually found in construction materials. When exposed to high levels of this chemical, it is associated with respiratory disorders according to the Center of Disease Control. Children and the elderly are especially at risk if exposed to Formaldehyde. Ceramic tile is COMPLETELY formaldehyde free!

  1. VOC-Free

Volatile organic compounds is an ingredient in many non-ceramic building materials and installation products. Long-term exposure to excessive amounts of VOC’s include:

  • Damage to the central nervous system, liver, and kidneys

  • Headaches, nausea, and loss of coordination

  • Nose, throat, and eye irritation

  • Cancer

Ceramic tile is one of the few flooring materials that is free of VOC’s!

  1. PVC-Free

Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is a resin used in some vinyl flooring types and installation materials that is regularly a concern among health experts and builders. Ceramic tile does not contain PVC, which means there are no plastic health concerns with tile.

  1. Hypoallergenic

Indoor air quality is often a contributing factor in many respiratory problems, in addition to contributing to the spread of airborne pathogens. The surface of ceramic tiles directly improves indoor air quality because it cannot be penetrated by allergens such as pollen, dust, or dirt. Instead, allergens settle on the surface of tile, where they can be wiped away with simply water and a sponge or mop (no harsh cleaning chemicals required). Ceramic tiles’ non-porous surface is also naturally resistant to mold and mildew. This means ceramic tile contains no allergens and is extremely easy to maintain.

  1. Safe for Occupants

Ceramic tile stands out amongst flooring options because of the variety of slip-resistant options it has to offer. Tile is also non-flammable, meaning that it will not burn, produce smoke, or give off toxic fumes when exposed to flame. Ceramic tile meets the flame spread and smoke development requirements of the International Building Code (IBC) and can be used for interior ceiling and wall applications when other flooring options cannot.

Overall, ceramic tile is one of the best materials you can choose when building due to the fact that it’s healthy and safe while still having plenty of styles, colors and textures to offer!
